Do traditional workout programs intimidate you?
This morning I got the opportunity to try one of the workouts called 'Rock It' a week 3 workout. It is not the typical workout I do. I tend to like those crazy workouts that leave you gasping for air and dripping in sweat but that is my thing and I know that it's not for everyone. I really wanted to go into this workout with an open mind. After listening to Micki Fernanadez speak, I realized just how many people this workout could help even more so than a traditional Beachbody workout. Micki talked about the mental transformations that occur with the program. It wasn't just meant to be about losing inches and building muscles. It was about losing fear and building confidence.
The music for the workouts is from the 80's and 90's. Each workout is inspired by a song that is played at the end as a cumulation of the moves you do throughout the workout. I have to admit straight out I am not particularly coordinated. I am one of those people at the gym who is going left while others are going right. At first I was getting frustrated with getting the moves wrong (totally me since they are actually very simple). Once I allowed myself to worry less about the moves and just move and have fun it got easier and I was actually getting it right. I have to admit at first the whole thing was a little too WOO WOOH for me. Everyone has super big smiles, and gives out a little woo woo every once and a while. It is supposed to be a big fun party and I get that but maybe they were trying a little to hard. Or maybe they weren't, maybe they were just that happy to be there doing the workout because a few months ago they were feeling bad and a little lost. By the final song 'Hit Me With Your Best Shot" I was smiling and shaking my booty during the free style. So who knows maybe when I do another one of the workouts I might give out a little Woo Wooh. Why not I am in the privacy of my own home no one will ever know.
